The LTRC was formed to collect lung tissues and medical data from patients with lung diseases. The primary patient groups being studied are: those who have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). The majority of ILD patients have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF/UIP). We are also collecting tissues and medical data from patients with other similar lung diseases as well as control tissues and data from patients who are going in to surgical units for exploratory biopsies.
The medical data being collected will come from a CT scan of the patient’s lungs and questionnaire data that are collected around the time of the patient’s surgery. The tissue and the medical information are processed in a standardized way. To review the tissue collection procedures please visit the Specimen Collection Protocol page here. Additional information regarding imaging and scan protocols can be found under the Scans and Scan Images tabs.
The Data Coordinating Center staff are responsible for assembling the data and making it available to researchers in the United States so that they can perform analyses on the tissues, CT scans, and/or the medical data. Please visit the Requests page for more information on requesting specimens and/or data from the LTRC.
